Ryanair invests 200 million and strengthens the Trieste hub
Winter base with two aircraft, 16 routes and capacity +130%: over one million passengers
Ryanair has announced a significant acceleration for the Trieste hub: for Winter 2025 the airline will base two aircraft at the airport — for the first time also operating during this season— compared with one in 2024.
The initiative is accompanied by a capital commitment of $200 million and will increase traffic by 50%, exceeding one million passengers annually. The operational plan foresees two based aircraft, 16 routes in total (including the new connection to Lamezia), and an offered capacity increased by 130%.
From an employment standpoint, Ryanair estimates more than 800 jobs supported in the Friuli‑Venezia Giulia Region. Since April 2024, the air company explains it, the abolition of the municipal surcharge — promoted by the President of the Region Massimiliano Fedriga together with Trieste Airport — has unlocked demand, investments and the creation of new routes; since then the low‑cost carrier has opened a base, added a second aircraft and launched 10 new routes, improving regional connectivity and tourist appeal. The carrier urges that similar fiscal measures be extended nationally to encourage further investments and network growth. For the Friuli area, therefore, an increase in network density and frequencies is projected, reinforcing Trieste as a strategic hub for Italy’s North‑East.
