Aviogei accelerates the electrification of Ground Support Equipment

In Lisbon, next-generation connected solutions for inclusive and safe airport handling

At the “GSE Expo Europe” international exhibition in Lisbon (at FIL, from September 15 to 17, with  AVIONEWS at the event), the historic Italian manufacturer Aviogei, founded by Franco Cesarini, is focusing on the key segments of passenger assistance and the green transition, presenting state-of-the-art solutions for boarding and ground handling.

Next-generation PRM vehicles (Thunderlift series): The models in the Thunderlift range (such as the 4000E and 6000E) represent the company’s benchmark for supporting passengers with reduced mobility and stretcher passengers. Equipped with 100% electric lithium-powered drivetrains, they ensure zero local emissions, insulated and air-conditioned cabins, and spacious platforms to facilitate safe and comfortable transfers even in adverse weather conditions.

Green self-propelled passenger stairs (SE series): Fully electric telescopic traction stairs designed to minimise ground turnaround times (turnaround). They offer a wide loading-sill height range to serve both narrow-and wide-body aircraft, complete with telescopic bellows enclosures (canopy) to protect passengers during boarding.

Advanced safety systems (IATA AHM 913): Integration of proximity sensors, 360-degree cameras and automatic slowing at fuselage approach points, eliminating the risk of aircraft collisions (Aircraft Damage Prevention).

Industry 4.0 connectivity and telemetry: Remote monitoring systems and integrated diagnostics via PLC for predictive management of the airport fleet, reducing downtime and optimising the allocation of vehicles to gates.

These innovations address the decarbonisation objectives of ramp operations (net-zero ramp) and the standards of comfort and inclusivity required by Europe’s leading hubs and handling companies.

The SE-1840 is one of Aviogei’s flagship passenger-access products, and the positive feedback recorded in Lisbon confirms market appreciation for solutions combining mechanical reliability with the green transition.

Another product presented at the Lisbon exhibition was the:

Thunderlift series (4000E and 6000E): Ambulift/medical lift vehicles designed for boarding and disembarking passengers with disabilities or stretcher passengers.

100% electric propulsion: Equipped with a lithium battery pack to operate with zero emissions and without noise at the aircraft stand.

Wide lifting range: Covers both regional/narrow-body aircraft and long-haul wide-body aircraft.

Comfort and safety: Insulated and air-conditioned body, rear loading platform at ground level, and sliding front platform with AHM 913 anti-collision sensors for approach to the fuselage.
