Negotiations continue between the US and China
"APEC" cancelled due to clashes in Chile, but negotiations do not stop
A new telephone conversation tomorrow between the United States and China to discuss the trade dossier: negotiations continue despite the uncertainties due to the cancellation in Chile of the "APEC" (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation). Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump should have been in Santiago on 16 and 17 November but given the violent Chilean protests the appointment was cancelled (see AVIONEWS).
The Beijing Ministry of Commerce said: "The teams of the two sides have continued to maintain close communications and the talks are currently progressing smoothly. The treaties will continue in line with the original plans".
Trump would have the intention to sign the agreement with Beijing in the coming weeks: it would be a first phase of the path to close the trade war that began 18 months with the duties.
