UV light: could it help contain coronavirus?
Boeing has already designed for its self-cleaning toilet planes that use ultraviolet rays
According to an article published on February 10 by "American Council and Science Health", an idea to contain the spread of infectious diseases, also considering the coronavirus emergency, could be to spread UV light in the environment. Boeing has already designed for its self-cleaning toilet planes that implement this particular form of energy that can kill 99.99% of microbes within three seconds. Only extremophilic pathogens (able to survive external agents) are resistant to rays. Installing UV lamps and keeping them on for a few minutes while no one is on board could help make the environments safer and cleaner. This type of light has the characteristic of being a powerful disinfectant for the same reason it causes skin cancer: its photons are able to damage DNA, so the airlines could only use it in the absence of people on the aircraft. All public spaces such as restaurants, shopping malls, trains, subway stations could benefit from this solution.
