EC: ok help Romanian airport Timisoara, carriers Wizz Air and Tarom
The railway company CFR Marfa will have to repay the bridging loan
Today, Monday 24 February, the European Commission (EC) authorized the public support granted by Romania to Timisoara airport, the third largest one in the country, and to the Hungarian carrier Wizz Air, stating that the aid complies with EU rules. Romania's plans to grant a temporary loan of approximately € 36.7 million to the local air company Tarom to guarantee the ordinary continuation of air transport services have been approved. Separately, the EU competition guarantor ordered Bucharest to recover the € 570 million of State aid given to the Romanian rail freight operator CFR Marfa because the financial support would have given the company is an unfair advantage of competitors on the market.
