Planes. Aeroflot reduces extremely its expenses

Non-essential purchases and contracts cancelled; leasing postponed for 67 aircraft

Mikhail Dyomin, spokesman of Aeroflot, the largest Russian airline, has informed that the carrier has cancelled all purchases except those directly related to flight operations and safety. The decision is part of its cost-cutting program due to the deep air transport crisis, which plunged due to restrictions on coronavirus pandemic. "We have given up all types of purchases that are not directly related to our flight operations", said the airline's spokesman. "All planned purchases, from service cars to media contracts, and all the way through the media, have been cancelled". Still, Dyomin added, company executives have reduced their wages by 40% since last April 1st.

It also appears that the Aeroflot Group already towards the end of last month agreed with the financial services company VTB Leasing (VTB Group) a solution that allows it, starting from this month of April, to postpone the lease payment of April-September to July 2021 for 67 planes located in the fleet of various Group airlines. Postponement whose terms were not officially disclosed by either party. On the table according to what "Kommersant" wrote at the end of March, the lease from 180-220 million dollars for 50 Boeing -737NG (most operating in the low-cost Pobeda Airline), four B-747s (today in Rossiya Airlines, coming from from Transaero), two B-777s, nine Airbus A-319s (part of these, in Aurora Airlines' fleet), an A-320 and an A-330 aircraft.
