Great expectation for Draghi-Biden meeting

The Presidents will focus on Russian-Ukrainian conflict

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi is in the United States to meet with US President Joe Biden and thus reaffirm the strength of the transatlantic bond between Rome and Washington. At 8:00pm Italian time the two politicians are going to take stock of the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Among the issues on the agenda there are also the coordination of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and energy security.

For Draghi, expected today at the White House, this is his first official visit to the US capital. Tomorrow the Prime Minister will go to the Atlantic Council, a study center that promotes international agreements and the Atlantic Alliance, where he will receive the Distinguished Leadership Award, an acknowledgement given to the most influential politicians in the world over the last year.

Meanwhile, in Italy, the trip to the United States is being watched with attention and the parties are calling for greater commitment from Europe. Among the critical voices there is the Five Star Movement (M5S): "If Biden allocates 20 billion dollars in weapons means that he is preparing for a long war in Ukraine. His objectives conflict with those of Europe and Italy. We are loyal to NATO, but the European Union must aim at a real negotiation", says the vice-president of the party, Riccardo Ricciardi, to the Italian newspaper "Il Fatto Quotidiano".
