Lufthansa strike: 1,000 flights cancelled and planes at grounf

Mobilization will end at 6 am on Thursday July 28

Germany-based ground staff of air carrier Lufthansa began a strike tonight that will end at 6:00 am on Thursday, July 28. The protest resulted in the cancellation of more than 1,000 flight connections, multiplying the chaos in European skies during the Summer season. The Greens union is demanding a +9.5 percent wage increase for some 20,000 workers to counter record inflation.

The mobilization prompted the airline to cancel almost all scheduled flights at its Frankfurt and Munich airport hubs. So far, Verdi and Lufthansa have held two negotiations: in the last one the airline offered a raise of 150 euros a month in 2022, another 100 in 2023, and wage increases linked to company performance. Nothing came of it. A third negotiation is scheduled for August 3 and 4 and further strikes are not ruled out.
