Vienna Airport expands terminal

Work began in February and completion is expected by 2027

Vienna-Schwechat Airport is preparing to start expansion work on Terminal 3. The construction site will open on February 14 and the work is expected to be completed by 2027. The new building will house approximately 70,000 sm of space, including more than 30 commercial premises and refreshment points. It was communicated by the Flughafen Wien Group, which manages the Austrian airport.

"The new southern expansion of Terminal 3 will allow us to be among the best airports in the world. The extraordinarily strong recovery effect over the last two years, following the pandemic, will be slowed down in 2024 and we expect a passenger volume of approximately 30 million travelers at Vienna Airport for the full year 2024", said Julian Jäger, member of the management board.

In 2023 the Austrian airport served 29.5 million passengers, with an increase of +24.7% compared to 2022. This is a performance that represents an operational capacity equal to 93.3% of the levels recorded in 2019, l the year before the pandemic. A modest increase to around 30 million passengers is expected in 2024.
