UK: embarrassment for the Navy
Two aircraft carriers blocked in port, participation in "Steadfast Defender" exercise postponed
The departure of the British aircraft carrier "Prince of Wales" has been postponed. The most modern unit of the United Kingdom Navy was due to set sail over the weekend to participate in the "Steadfast Defender" war exercise, which is being held on the northern and eastern fronts of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The ship was supposed to take the place of the aircraft carrier "Queen Elizabeth", blocked in port due to a mechanical problem.
Curious and passionate people gathered yesterday in the port of Portsmouth to witness the "cast off moorings" yesterday. Nothing done. A double embarrassment for the Royal Navy, pride of the former British Empire. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense did not clarify the matter: that is, whether the causes of the postponement of the departure were linked to a bureaucratic issue, to a rescheduling that occurred at the last moment, or whether a technical problem occurred.
Recently the British Navy made it known that it would not rule out sending an aircraft carrier to the Red Sea in the coming months to replace the American "Dwight David Eisenhower" in patrolling the seas in the Middle East. A move which aims to guarantee the safety of commercial traffic in the area, after the recent escalation of attacks against merchant ships by the Houthis, the Yemeni rebel militias.
