Sweden in NATO from Monday 11 March

Hungarian president promulgated law

The Swedish flag could be raised at the building where the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is located in Brussels. This is what emerges from some rumors relaunched by the Scandinavian media. The ceremony would be scheduled for Monday 11 March at lunchtime, in the presence of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg .

This was reported by the news program of the private television station "TV4", the day after the signature placed by Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok on the document ratifying Sweden's membership of the Atlantic Alliance, a move with which Budapest lifted Stockholm's veto. The latter, as industrial compensation, will supply Budapest with four more Gripen C fighter planes and build a center of excellence for Virtual Reality Technology in Hungary.

Sweden had asked to join the Atlantic Alliance in 2022, after the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. Hungary was the only NATO member that had not yet ratified Stockholm's request. After the favorable vote, Hungarian President Sulyok promulgated the law today. Then Stockholm will submit the request for official membership, becoming the 32nd component of the Atlantic Alliance.
