Week one of the 42nd ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Assembly (September 23-October 3) set the stage with engaging discussions and collaborative exchanges on the future of aviation.

His Excellency, Naif Ali Hamad Al Abri of Oman, was elected President of the 42nd Session of the Assembly, and he will encourage consensus for decisive resolutions in support of ICAO’s mission throughout the duration of the Assembly.

A key highlight from the first week of the Assembly was the presentation of the Edward Warner Award, ICAO’s highest honour, to the Air Crash Victims' Families' Federation International (ACVFFI). Additionally, fourteen States were recognized for significant progress toward zero fatalities in international aviation.

On Saturday, elections for PART I and PART II of the ICAO Council took place. The elected States will now serve a three-year term. Elections for PART III, ensuring geographic representation, will take place today, on 30 September 2025 (see for details AVIONEWS).

The discussions will continue to shape a comprehensive set of resolutions that will govern international civil aviation for the upcoming triennium.
