Thales presents new UAS100 drone for civil and military uses
First flight of the prototype was successfully completed
Thales has successfully completed the first flight of the new UAS100, a promising and interesting drone that has among its main features a range of more than 100 kilometers. With a hybrid propulsion system to ensure maximum safety, strength and discretion, the long-range aircraft will be exploited for civil, government and military uses. In addition to combining performance in absolute safety with regard to flight, its compact design makes it suitable for compliance with European regulations governing drones in relation to populated areas.
The industry has thought of everything to meet the needs of any type of mission, including inspection, coastal surveillance, event security, search, rescue and military operations. The first flight featured a small-scale prototype: the development took place in collaboration with Issoire Aviation and Hionos, without forgetting the support of the French Ministry of Armed Forces through Aid (the agency that deals with innovation related to defense in the transalpine country).
UAS100 is intended to meet the demand for high performance drones capable of significantly reducing the environmental impact. The extensive collaboration that has already been mentioned has allowed us to develop this drone in record time, ensuring a unique know-how of its kind in terms of design and production.
Yannick Assouad, executive vice-president of Thales' avionics systems segment, commented on the news: “We want to provide the most reliable solution ever for civilian, inspection and government and military security. The new system paves the way for the air mobility solutions of the future”.
